City tours

City Tours

  • Leaving from the Zoo station or Friedrichstrasse, busses with the numbers 100 and 200 are a great way to gain initial first impressions of the city. Tip: depart the bus at the Brandenburg Gate and walk along the 'Unter den Linden' boulevard to the Gendarmenmarkt - weather permitting, it is an invigorating experience (no guided tours).

  • Guided city tours are provided by a number of reputable companies, and start every 15 to 30 minutes in the peak tourism season. Starting points include for example the Kaiser William Memorial Church at the Kurfürstendamm and the "Unter den Linden" boulevard on the corner of the Friedrichstraße. The tour takes around 2 hours and prices range between 15 and 25 € per person depending on the tour company in question.
  • Another popular way to see Berlin is by boat. River tours depart from the jetties on the Friedrichstraße, Cathedral/Museum Island and Jannowitz Bridge. Prices start at 14 € per adult

  • Humboldt Forum/Berliner Schloss: Until its destruction in World War II and the resulting demolition, the Berliner Schloss was a secular building on the Spree Island in the historic centre of Berlin. By decision of the German Bundestag, a modern-functional building was constructed on the site of the palace from 2013 to 2020 according to plans by Franco Stella, which, except for the Spree side, features reconstructions of the palace façades on its outer sides and in two courtyards. In addition to the Ethnological Museum and the Museum of Asian Art of the National Museums in Berlin, it is also home to the Berlin Exhibition of the Stadtmuseum Berlin and the Humboldt Laboratory of the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin.

For the Festival of Lights, Berlin is transformed into a metropolis of lights in October: the Brandenburg Gate, the TV Tower, the Berlin Cathedral, the Radio Tower and many other Berlin landmarks shine at night with colourful illuminations.

Numerous artists from Germany and abroad present light installations and projections on building facades for the Festival of Lights, creating an extraordinary cityscape.
